The Bay LightsWhile the Golden Gate bridge has always stood in the limelight (no pun intended), the lesser known Bay Bridge has recently received a full makeover. For those in the San Francisco area, this makeover is truly a sight to be seen. In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the historic bridge, the city has privately funded a light display that covers the entire span of the bridge. It's potentially the largest light sculpture in the world, and it will illuminate the city for at least the next two years.

In a move to rejuvenate tourism in the city, bridge organizers decided that their celebration of the bridge and its history needed to be bigger and brighter than anything else in the world. With 25,000 LEDs, the San Francisco Bay Bridge turns into a 7-hour long light show that will never repeat itself. The lights are each spaced about a foot apart, and each one can be individually controlled. Artist Leo Villareal is the man behind the project, one that has been in the making for the last two years.

While people might think that the lights display traffic volume or the flow of water underneath the bridge, Villareal claims that it's nothing like that. Instead, the designs come from abstract sequences that were created by kinetic energy that's generated Leo Villarealaround the bridge itself.  The changing of the lights and the overall effects are completely random. At some points, viewers can see the bridge lights move slowly. At the same time, they may see rays of light dart from one end of the bridge to the other. Whatever the outcome from the artist's programming of such an extravagant work of art, he has promised that the show will always be unpredictable.

While the LED lighting was the most efficient method to get the artistic creation up and running, creating such a work of art was no small task. Teams worked during evening hours to install fiber optic networks that would allow the artist to take control of the lights when all was said and done.

One of the most interesting things about the light display is the use of LED technology. Not only does the LED light give the artist more control over the overall display, but the cost to operate the light show for seven hours every night is only about $30. The light show begins at dusk every evening and ends at 2 a.m.

Multi-Color LEDLED lighting isn't a new technology, but the evolution of it has led to designers and decorators having the ability to create customized colors for both home and office elements. This efficient and affordable alternative to older lighting methods, which were often known for giving off massive amounts of heat and driving electric bills through the roof offer more versatility and creativity to those looking to enhance the inside or outside of a building. The color changing LED comes in two basic forms that allow the user to have nearly complete control of all colors across the spectrum.

Color Mixing

By combining red, green and blue LEDs, light owners have the most affordable control of the color spectrum. By using different levels of each color, a broad variety of colors can be created. Most recently, manufacturers have been adding in amber LEDs to the traditional RGB combination. This gives the light the ability to create softer, more natural tones which were once somewhat difficult to achieve with only three colors. Additionally, combining all three or four colors creates a white light.

Multi-Color LEDs

A more recent evolution in LED technology is the idea of tri-color and quad-color LEDs. These LEDs use multiple leads that allow colors to mix together before they're actually emitted. This actually saves both power and space within a color changing LED, while making it easier for the light to create custom colors, rather than the user having to create the balance themselves.

While the color changing LED may not seem to have much use in the home as a replacement for conventional lighting or single-color LED lights, they serve as a valuable resource for larger venues and those looking at lighting from a decorative standpoint. For outdoor lighting, the color changing LED allows a venue to use the same lights year-round while never being restricted to a single color. With the flick of a switch, light owners can change colors instantly, allowing them to adapt to the surrounding decoration or change their light color based on the time of year.

Color changing LEDs have several purposes. From decorative outdoor lighting to accents on interior design, the ability to change the look of your surroundings is a valuable resource for anyone that's interested in changing the look of their interior or exterior on command. The color changing LED removes the limits that once came with conventional lighting and the inconveniences that were involved in changing colors.

LED Closet Lighting LED lighting has allowed people to create conventional lighting in non-conventional places. With a lack of functionality and the need for hard power lines, halogen, incandescent or fluorescent bulbs have little versatility and almost no decorative value. Closet lighting is something that most people don't even think about. While fumbling through endless hangars and clothing, people have often simply dealt with the fact that they have little to no light. Today, LED clothing rods have created far more convenience, while adding a decorative value to any closet. These clothing rods aren't only versatile and customizable, but can be used in nearly any setting.

Home Closets

Naturally, we could all use a little bit more light in our closets at home. Those old-fashioned stick-on lights were once a popular hit, but were usually known to only last several hours before either the battery died or the bulb needed to be replaced. With LED clothing rods, you get a bulb, or several bulbs, that will last you several thousand hours, with almost no drain on a battery-powered unit. The idea of lighting a closet was once a short-lived theory, where lighting units were almost never replaced. Today, the low maintenance required of LED lighting lets people keep their closet well lit without having to replace bulbs and batteries.

Clothing Stores

The thought of bright lighting in a department store is one that any fashionista dreads. To help create a calmer vibe within a store like this while making sure to have the proper accent on the clothing that's for sale, LED clothing rods have become the optimal choice for lighting. This stylish look focuses on product that's available for purchase while keeping light off of dreary store corners and empty areas of any store. Additionally, these lights can change color, allowing stores to create shades that are customized to a specific time of year.

Yachts

With larger vessels, power is often quite limited. The need for low-power lighting has made the option of LEDs one that is often used by owners of marine vessels. Lighting on the interior rooms of any boat or ship are options that usually take a back seat in order to conserve power for emergency lighting and nighttime running lights outside the ship. LED clothing rods allow boat owners to have convenient access to their clothing and storage areas without using valuable power that's needed for other parts of the boat.

LED BulbWhether it’s for your business or your home, lighting is something that you need to get through the every day. Unfortunately, like all things we use, there is always the question of energy usage that you consume, which ultimately affects your carbon footprint. Trying to find ways to conserve energy has become more crucial than ever, especially given the current state of the environment. But when it comes to your business, did you know that making the investment for energy-efficient lighting can actually improve your overall ROI? While it’s easy to feel the effects of overhauling your lighting, the right set up can have you consistently seeing a positive return on your investment for several years to come.

Bulbs that are fluorescent or incandescent often require much more maintenance than compared to greener methods. LED light bulbs have an exponentially longer life than older style bulbs, with some lasting as long as 100,000 hours, or just over 12 years. The amount of money you save on bulbs alone makes your return on investment a positive one in just under one year, which leaves more than a decade of putting money back in your pocket by Green Energynot having to invest in new light bulbs.

LED lighting is a powerful light that uses an extremely low amount of heat. Not only does this reduce your electric bills by as much as 20%, but you’ll save on cooling costs as well, since LED lighting is almost always cool to the touch. You’ll make back what you paid to invest in LED lighting in 2 years at most, with most businesses being able to make their money back in as little 6 months.

Businesses that invest in green energy often get the benefits of several tax credits that aren’t normally available to individuals. With a consultation by your local lighting company on LED lighting, you can get all the information you need to learn how this new style of lighting can not only improve the look of your business, but can help you claim several tax credits geared toward making green energy, including lighting, a more streamlined way of running a business.

While you might feel like there’s sticker shock in LED lighting, passing up the investment could cost you more in the long run. When it’s your ROI that you’re concerned about, making the switch now could provide you with a longer and prosperous future.

Custom LightingConventional lighting is cheaper to install, and at times can light up more of your space than custom methods. But is the old-fashioned way of doing things the way to get your business rolling in a new-fashioned world? The idea of “bulk shopping” for your lighting might be slightly cheaper than the idea of going custom, but you’re going to pay for it in the long run. If you want to take your business on the right path, you’ve got to make sure that you connect with your customers in every aspect possible, including your visual appeal. Custom lighting ideas can bring your products to life. Before you take the cheapest route possible, learn why custom methods could be even less expensive.

Less Power

Those bright fluorescent lights and incandescent bulbs might offer you a lot of illumination, but you’re going to pay for it. Conventional methods of lighting that have been used for decades have more power draw than most modern appliances you might have in your place of business. You can save well over 20% on your electric bill just by switching to a custom lighting set up, which can save you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars over the next several years.

More Options

Custom lighting leaves you free to do pretty much anything that you can set to your imagination. With most conventional lighting, you’re often left using standard light sockets and treatments that are used throughout all industries. With custom lighting, you’ll get the design you need with nearly no limits to what you can create from a creative standpoint. This ability to customize lets your business stand out from the rest, and steers your showroom away from that conventional feel.

More Appeal

No one likes to be blinded by annoying lights that can irritate the eyes. With custom lighting over conventional lighting, you give yourself and your customers a more relaxed feeling when they enter your showroom. The ability to set the mood is something that simply can’t be done with conventional methods of lighting. Additionally, with a little effort, you can make parts of your showroom stick out where it’s appropriate. By making specific products shine, you can increase your sales substantially by focusing on the product that needs to get out the door.

Ditching the conventional methods of lighting for a custom option may seem like an expensive alternative, but will almost always pay off in the long run with the right lighting professionals.

Outdoor LightingOutdoor lighting is always a tricky proposition. You have two main objectives when trying to lay out your plan for your front or back yards, make sure that no one can get hurt by tripping on your lighting, and make sure that the lighting sufficiently illuminates your yard. Before you go just picking up any number of lights, you’ll want to make sure that you have the best options to work with. You’ll also want to make sure to factor in the following items before finalizing the layout for your outdoor lighting.

You Can Hide It

Outdoor lighting comes in so many shapes and sizes that you don’t need to stake a peg in the ground just to light up your yard. You’ll have lots of options for outdoor lighting, including realistic-looking stones with built-in lights that can hide the lighting when you’re not using it. It’s easy to conceal your lighting, you just need to think outside the box of the standard lights you see for sale at your local hardware store.

Consider Solar Power

If you’ve got areas of your yard that are exposed to the sun most of the day, you’ll want to think about investing in solar-powered lighting. Solar power cells built into lights store the sunlight in an internal battery, which is then used to power the light in the evening. If you choose to go this route, don’t shortchange yourself. Several cheaper models work for about an hour or two before they get extremely dim, so make sure you aren’t purchasing solar-powered outdoor lighting at Wal-Mart.

Use LEDs

LED lighting is anything but new, but only recently has the technology come far enough to produce bright white lights. When it comes to lighting an outdoor area, you often need more light sources, since the light doesn’t have things to reflect off of like the walls in your home. More light equals more energy, which in turn equals more cost. LEDs run on a fraction of the power that regular bulbs do, saving you nearly 80% on the cost of your outdoor lighting.

If you have to sit there and return lights for new ones because you didn’t plan ahead, you could end up wasting your time and money. Take our advice into consideration, and you’ll come to a final decision much faster, while having your lighting up and running in no time.

LED Lighting ScienceThe LED light or light-emitting diode, if you don’t like acronyms, is used in lots of different places. You can find their bright shining lights in flashlights, Christmas lights, cell phones, clocks, and lots of other places. Let’s not forget how they send information to your television or other electronic entertainment device through the remote control. Have you ever wondered how they produce light? Basically LED lights are small light bulbs, but the way they actually work is fascinating. Buckle up because you are about to learn all about how they work and produce that blinding light you see shining off of them.

LED emits light from a solid matter which is a semiconductor. Sounds complicated, but it isn’t too bad once you break it down a little more. The light is produced when electrons move inside the semiconductor. This is made of positively and negatively charged components. When an electric charge strikes against this semiconductor, they go crazy moving though the negative and positive sections and they emit light! In LEDs the conductor material is usually aluminum-gallium-aresenide which is also known as AlGaAs. The atoms of which bond perfectly to each other leaving no free roaming electrons, so additional “doping” is done to the AlGaAs in order to add additional atoms to charge it up, by adding some free electrons to make the material conduct electricity. After a few more reactions between the electrons bouncing about photons are created and you see the light.

Of course as with anything there are some cons with the pros that come along with LED lights. There is a reason why some people may chose other wise and the main reason being the price difference. While incandescent light bulbs, most times be less, they get really hot and can burn out pretty quickly meaning you might go through several.

If you are a energy saver, LED lights should be the preferable choice for lighting your home simply because they do just that. They use much less than half the energy an incandescent bulb uses. They also last a lot longer. The LED light can last for up to twenty years, which is more than can be said for incandescent which lasts for roughly seven hundred and fifty hours. They are still finding more ways to use LED and may have been replace already you your favorite technology or gadget.

Underwater Marine LightingLighting technology in the marine industry has undergone quite an evolution over the past few years. OEM’s and lighting installation companies serving the marine industry have gone from florescent to halogen before embracing the technological advantages of LED lighting for boats. In addition to LED’s energy conservation capabilities, it enjoys a long life span and generates virtually no heat, making it the perfect choice for the challenging marine environment.

Previously, the marine lighting industry relied heavily on halogen lighting until the industry began reporting a high incidence of fires occurring on boats as a result of the intense heat that emanate from the bulbs. A halogen light generates so much heat that it’s capable of igniting flammable materials in proximity to the light source. The possibility of halogen becoming an on-board fire hazard made boat owners demand a better solution.  As any old salt will tell you, the threat of a fire on a boat is of the single greatest concern to every mariner.

LED’s quickly caught on in the marine industry. The old halogen lamps reached temperatures exceeding 480 degrees Fahrenheit. The heat can get so intense that it has been known to actually set fire to a wooden door. LED’s, on the other hand, run at such a cool temperature that you can hold one between your fingers without any discomfort.  What’s more, an LED draws less than one watt of power. So compatible are LED’s to the boating industry that they are being utilized in other marine areas such as docks and even as submerged ambient lighting.

Low maintenance is another great feature for marine applications of LED’s. This durable light source enjoys longevity of 85,000 hours. That comes to 40 times greater life expediency of halogen.

Led Sign LightingThe first thing that anyone is going to see about your business before they even step foot into your showroom or office is most certainly going to be the sign out front. Business owners are savvy enough to know that their brand needs to be well represented on any outdoors signage that they might have hanging up. If you’ve ever driven by a sign that’s partially lit and laughed, remember that to the business owner that’s not very funny, especially considering you drove by and didn’t stop in. Poor sign lighting is not only a potential negative representation of a brand, but is often the cause of lost business. There are several opportunities available for proper sign lighting that should be considered before building and mounting your business sign.

Use a Timer

Businesses have permanently lit signs for their outdoor exposure are going to end up with an extremely high electric bill at the end of the month. If you already have sign lighting like this, using a timer to determine when your sign actually turns on is going to save you 50-70% of your electric bill, which could result in thousands of dollars added to your bottom line every year. Take the time to install a timer and you’ll feel the effects of it almost immediately.

Consider LED Sign Lighting

LED sign lighting runs cheaper, runs cooler and lasts a lot longer than convention lighting methods. Incandescent and halogen bulbs are often more expensive and only last for a couple of months before they go out. Neon lighting is bright, but exposure to the elements of weather could leave you expensive repairs on your sign on a regular basis. LED lighting, on the other hand, can last anywhere from 50,000 to 100,000 hours per bulb, which is more than a decade. Additionally, replacing LED lighting is extremely inexpensive, and often brighter than your other options.

Contrasting Colors

Putting a red logo on top of a black background is going to hide your logo when compared to a white background. Make sure to use contrasting colors so that when light shines from behind your sign, it’s prominently seen by passer-bys and those who didn’t know that your business actually existed. Additionally, the brighter the lighting, the better the contrast you’ll get out of your colors, which is only another reason to go with LED lighting rather than some of your other options that are available in today’s business sign lighting market.

Indoor LightingWhile outdoor lighting might have a big impact, especially at night, your indoor lighting is just as important. Through all the efforts you’ve made to make your home look nice and appealing to visitors, it’s easy for a little lighting flaw to completely change how people view your business. Taking the time to think about your lighting situation inside while you’re designing your home can save you a lot of hassle, especially when you think you’ve finally finished everything, only to realize your lighting is off. Take into consideration some of these important factors when it comes to indoor lighting, before planning out your home decoration.

Paint Looks Different In Different Lights

People spend hours looking for the right paint color for their walls. While many of them consider how the sun will change the look of a color, several people often bypass what indoor lighting can do to certain shades. This can leave you with complete regret if you aren’t careful. When choosing the colors of your walls, make sure that you test them against both sunlight and a variety of indoor lights so you’re confident that you have the right shade.

Light Takes up Space

When you plan out the furniture for a particular space, you take into consideration how much floor room you have. When it comes time to add lighting, many people are floored by how much space lighting can actually take up. Make sure to take this into consideration before purchasing all of your furniture. If you have to hold off until after your rooms are furnished to purchase indoor lighting, consider LED lighting to take up less space.

Color Changes Color

The color of your paint can completely change the vibe of a room. If you’ve decided to invest in LED lighting as your choice of indoor lighting, look into lights that offer a spectrum of colors. You don’t need to make these colors intense, but even a simple change in color for your lighting can drastically change the overall look and feel of a room, especially in the evening.

Whether you go with LED lighting or traditional methods for your indoor lighting, factoring the look of your lights into how the rest of your furniture and wall colors will look will have a positive impact on the outcome of your final product. Additionally, you’ll be much more pleased with the results, while not feeling like you’re forced to do anything all over again because of poor planning.

Led LightingIt’s only natural that technology has come as far as it has. It was only 50 years ago that we dreamt of a computer that weighed less than 2 tons. Just over twenty years ago, we still had cords attached to our phones. And less than 10 years ago, people were still lighting their homes with incandescent bulbs. Today the technology of lighting is better than ever, which has maximized our ability to customize and design our lighting the way we want it. However, to truly take advantage of your options when it comes to light, you’ll want to install lighting with LED lights. There are several benefits that LEDs offer over other lighting options.

LEDs Run Cooler

Halogen bulbs run about 50% cooler than incandescent bulbs. Lighting with LED lights runs 100% cooler than incandescent and halogen bulbs. LED bulbs are cool to the touch. There is no longer a need to fear a fire from a fallen lamp or broken bulb. LED lights put out no heat from the light that is created.

LEDs are Smaller

Lighting accessories such as recessed lighting were built to hide bulbs that were once far too large for their own good. One led light is about 3% of the size of a regular incandescent bulb. There’s no longer a need to worry about light bulbs taking up excessive amounts of space when the lighting can take up only a few square inches. This gives you more room to work with when it comes to other furnishings, and less worrying about where you’re going to put a giant lamp.

LEDs are Colorful

When it comes to home decoration, designers and homeowners alike are often frustrated by the fact that there were only a few shades of colors that could made with incandescent bulbs. With LED lighting however, three small bulbs, red, blue, and green can give you a full spectrum of colors to choose from. Take the time to experiment with the balance of LED bulbs and you’ll find the perfect colors for lighting your home decoration or illuminating your outdoor décor.

If you haven’t gotten into lighting with LED lights yet, you’re missing out on a fully designable, inexpensive alternative to incandescent bulbs. Additionally, you won’t be stuck replacing LED bulbs every couple of months, since most last several years before they burn out. Make the switch to lighting with LED lights today and see what you can do for your home.

Showcase Lighting

Showcase Lighting - LumironLighting up jewelry and other valuable items can be a difficult job sometimes. It’s easy to misunderstand the concept of showcase lighting and how important it is to your sales. It’s even easier to go with some cheap alternative to showcase lighting. If this is your first time dealing with showcases and how you display the items you have for sale, then you’ll want to make sure that you at least start with this article to realize what options you have.

No Lighting – Not an Option

The biggest mistake the jewelry retailers across the country make is to simply utilize the lighting that comes from the ceiling. When you’re selling expensive items, jewelry or otherwise, you want to make sure that what you have on display sticks out from the rest of the store. By lighting up the room as a whole, you essentially take away your best chance of getting your potential customer’s eyes on the prize.

Incandescent and Halogen Lighting – Close

While incandescent and halogen lighting for your showcase lighting is better than no lighting at all, these methods are not only sore on customer’s eyes, but they don’t make the jewelry shine the way it should. More and more jewelers and other retailers are realizing that the more you can customize your lighting, from brightness to color, the better the chance you’ll have of actually selling it. Old-fashioned bulbs and bright white halogen lights can often give jewelry and other valuable items an “off” look that doesn’t let precious metal and stones shine the way they should.

LED Lighting – Bingo

LED lighting may not be the newest technology around, but it can do much more with less space, and less energy than any other lighting option that you’ve been considering. With the flip of a switch or turn of a knob you can completely change the mood lighting within your showcases. Depending on what you’re featuring, the lighting can actually be customized to the item, without ever having to re-install lights. LED lighting is so flexible and so small, yet is uses so little power and is cool to the touch, that the investment will last you for years to come before you even have a light bulb burn out.

Sure you could always go with older style showcase lighting, but those who are shopping for jewelry may have already seen what LED lighting does to jewelry, and trying to save a few dollars by buying used showcases will cost you a lot more over the next several months.

Jewelry LightingThe biggest problem that jewelers face when trying to sell their current inventory isn’t that they don’t have appealing enough jewelry in stock. It’s actually that they don’t know how to properly sell their inventory to those who come to check out their store front. All too often, we see poorly lit jewelry stores. The shine that legitimate jewelry offers, be it diamonds, gold, or platinum can truly come out with the properly jewelry lighting. If you’re a jeweler who has been struggling to make their store front look more appealing, perhaps you need to simply look up at what illuminates what you’ve got for sale.

Jewelry lighting isn’t about lighting the entire room of a jewelry store, but about focusing on the items that you have for sale. We’re sure that your showroom looks nice, but if you don’t think about your lighting, you’re not going to sell you product properly. Your jewelry lights should always focus on the jewelry, and make the customers eyes move towards exactly what you’re looking to move.

Additionally, the tone of your jewelry lighting is certainly going to bring out the shine of your product. Different lighting is going to be required depending on the type of jewelry you’re selling in what showcase. Your diamond jewelry will need different lighting from that of your gold. Only when you put the proper thought process into this lighting strategy will it actually work for you. Experimentation is the one true way to find out what tones of jewelry light will work best for you.

If you’re not sure how to go about lighting up your jewelry to make it shine, consider LED lighting. The best part about jewelry lighting with LEDs is that LED lights are inexpensive and fully customizable. Tri-Color LEDs allow you to change the color of your lighting on demand, so if you’ve got dynamic showcases that are always changing, your lighting can adapt exactly to your needs.  Additionally, if you feel like you’ve made errors within your colors and lighting styles, replacing or upgrading LED lighting is extremely affordable.

If you’re one of those who knows the value of jewelry lighting and the impact it can have on your business, you need to consider LED lighting and its flexibility when you’re choosing how to illuminate your showcases. Take the time to make the right decisions, rather than working quickly on your lighting, and you’ll find that you’ll increase your business, while saving money on energy costs.

Lighting Accessories - LumironLighting used to be something that was taken way too lightly. Whether it was for home, office, or public decoration, lighting was simply used for the purpose of illuminating areas that we couldn’t see. Now, thanks to the capabilities that we have with modern lighting, there’s another element that needs to be added into the world of lighting, and that element is the accessories that become available to consumers who are interested in doing more than just lighting a hallway. You may not even be aware of some of the lighting accessories that are available to consumers, but that may be because you haven’t taken any major steps to upgrade your lighting. Here are just a few accessories that come with the technology that’s available today.

Lighting Scrim

New to the world of lighting is scrim. Scrim is a fabric that can come in black or white, but is meant to “carry” light or reflect. In most cases scrim is not completely transparent, but the light can easily shine through. Additionally, the reflective properties of scrim allow it to carry light up light trussing, pillars, and other items that you may have scrim mounted to. Scrim works great whether you are doing backlighting or foreground lighting with the light you already have installed.

Lighting Controllers

Gone are the days when light switches were the only lighting accessories that you needed to get by. Now, dimmers, remotes, and even complex lighting controllers that were once saved for large venues and nightclub can help illuminate your home exactly the way you want it to. These styles of controllers give you complete access to controlling your lighting, including the ability to control the colors of LED lighting that you may have installed or will be installing. Usually, these controllers are very complicated, so make sure to have a professional help you determine which lighting controller would be right for you.

Lighting Timers

If you’ve spent the time and money to install complex lighting, your lighting accessories should help you take care of making people notice what you’ve got installed in your home or office. Lighting timers allow you to control when the lights turn on and off without you ever having to be present. You can also help regulate your electric bill (even though your lighting bill should already be lower).

While lighting accessories aren’t a necessity to lighting your home, you’ll find that you can do so much more with the technology you’ve got to work with once you have it installed.

Future Lighting - LumrionIt doesn't take much to realize that we've come a long way since the early days of lighting. Since the invention of the light bulb, lighting is one thing that has continued to change and grow with society. As we continue to look for ways to save money while still being able to light both large and small venues, it's no wonder that LED lighting has recently led the way in illuminating the environment around us. But as we look to the future, there's always the curiosity of what's in store for us. Obviously, like everything else, there will be a large shift in the future of lighting, but the question remains as to what that shift will be and where it will lead us. Based on the technology that we see today, however, we can make a few educated guesses as to what the future holds.

Less Power Draw

If you've ever been amazed at how little power LED's draw when compared to your conventional light bulb, we expect that in the next decade, an even newer form of lighting will emerge that uses little to even no energy. It may seem like a far stretch of the imagination, but did you ever think that you'd be holding a smartphone in your hands back when you were first using a Nokia cell phone? Lighting is a constant need for survival, or so it seems. So as the population and the buildings around it continue to expand, we'll need to find ways to conserve energy, and lighting is the first place that several great minds will look.

A Cooler World

Even with the light bulb being phased out and LED lighting coming into play, it's important to realize that LED lighting does still continue to give off some sort of heat. The goal of LED lighting is to minimize the amount of heat given off by our lighting, which saves money on cooling, as well as prevents household hazards like fires. But it's a safe prediction that there is an even cooler form of lighting coming along that will give off absolutely no heat whatsoever. We also predict that this lighting will be an alternative form of LED lighting, and while it may not represent what LED lighting is today, much of the idea will come from it.

Don't let yourself be fooled no matter what you do in terms of your LED lights. Take the time to be aware of the technology and you'll find that we have an even broader horizon than we did before, and you could be the one inventing the future yourself.

Saving Energy - LumironSave Money with Lighting Energy Saving

While the world has made a concerted effort to save both money and energy, technology has played a rather unfair role in assuring that our power usage remains high. Video game consoles, LCD TV’s and desktop computers to continue to run electric bills higher than they have ever been before. So when the technology won’t cooperate and you want to save money, you want to look at lighting energy saving strategies to keep your monthly electric bill as low as possible. If you haven’t tried some of these techniques, give them a trial run. While you won’t save loads doing one of these money-saving strategies, combining them into a larger effort could pay off in the long run.

Use Lighting Timers

Turning off the lights in rooms we aren’t using is an effort that most people make, but people do often make mistakes. Using timers to assure that lighting only remains on during certain parts of the day can save you a few dollars a month, and up to 100 dollars per year. On average, the timers only cost about 20 dollars to purchase, so you make your money back quite quickly one these.

Use LED Lighting

Incandescent bulbs are a thing of the past. LED lighting has come so far in versatility that the once annoying bright whites are now a softer color that is easier on the eyes when you’re looking to a light a room with a softer tone. LED lighting bulbs last for 10 years or more, output a small amount of heat, and cost a fraction of what regular light bulbs cost to power. Though the technology of LED lights is still evolving, this is hailed by many as one of the best lighting energy savings techniques that home owners can try to save as much as 300 dollars per year on their electric bill.

Consider Solar Power

Several people use hard-wired outdoor lighting to illuminate the walkways and driveways on the outside of their home. The combination of both solar power and LED lighting is a combination that assures a brightly lit outdoor area after a day of sun. Both technologies become more efficient on a regular basis, which allows you to disconnect from the electricity altogether and save hundreds of dollars per year with this simple lighting energy saving method. Be sure to place your solar powered lighting strategically to allow the lights to pull in as much sun power as possible before sundown.

Professional Lighting - LumironSometime people think that professional lighting is only meant for big businesses and companies. Fact is, everyone could use a little bit of advanced lighting, even in their homes. While it’s easy to install some recessed lighting for your living room, when you’re looking to spruce up your interior or exterior of your home or office, there are plenty of professional lighting uses that could work to your advantage.

Nightclubs and Bars

Regular lighting is often too bright for the normal venue that serves alcohol. Colored LED lighting and other professional lighting gives subtle hints to your bar or nightclub without blinding your patrons. Wash lighting is some of the most used type of lighting these days to avoid dark spots in corners and on walls, while creating an ambiance that customers appreciate and find comforting while consuming alcohol.

Outdoor Lighting

Exposing electricity to the outdoor elements makes things a little bit tricky. One of the best places for professional lighting uses is right in your own backyard. With natural landscaping, you don’t have the symmetry for regular lighting to provide optimal results. Getting custom lighting installed not only makes sure your landscape is well lit, but that the lights don’t actually take away from the natural beauty of the landscape.

Boats

If you’ve got a medium to large sized boat, there’s most likely a professional lighting use for you. By powering your boat with proper lighting, you keep your power usage to a minimum and the eye-catching look is still maintained. Don’t let improper lighting drain the power on your battery while you’re not running the engine. Installations like these are quick, and they can save you hundreds of dollars a year on power for regular lighting on marine vessels.

Showrooms

Using regular lighting in showrooms makes your product look dull and boring. One of the most common professional lighting uses is for making sure that your displays are well lit, while catching the important features of your product that is on display. Eye appeal is the first selling point that you have in a showroom and ignoring that could actually hurt your sales.

Marine LED Manufacturing - LumironWhile LED lighting has actually been around for several years, it’s only in the last few years that we’ve seen Marine LED lighting become a staple in both the home and work environments. Though simple LEDs are a snap to manufacture, the more features, colors and design that come with LEDs make for quite the complicated process. LED manufacturing is no small task, but the inexpensive cost that comes with the products these lights are made of still makes them a cost saving and customizable resource for both indoor and outdoor lighting.

In a simple LED light light, a diode comprised of metal posts placed almost end to end  has electricity placed through it. As that power jumps from one metal post to the other, you see the light that is emitted from the diode. Similar to a light bulb, this simple system must be protected. In the LED light’s case, the LED manufacturing process places an epoxy casing of the metal posts, which is that small pen tip style shape  that you see in most lights.

Things get a little more complicated with LED manufacturing when it comes to changing the colors of the lights.. The first LED models were manufactured with gallium. When gallium is put into the LED process, it emits a red light, which is why this used to be the only color that we’d normally see, which was often used for creating running lights for joggers, as well as lights for directing traffic.

As the evolution of Marine LED manufacturing came about it was discovered that by using different metals, as well as adding impurities to those metals, we could create various colors, as well as different levels of brightness within each light.

Today, there are 4 main colors that are used with LED lighting, but there are several colors available. Red, green, blue, and white are the most commonly used colors. With red, green and blue colors, you can create an entire spectrum of colors by combining different levels of each color. Additionally, brilliant white has become extremely popular for use with flashlights and camera phones, making their light brighter while only using a fraction of the power as regular bulbs.
